- Wife Mary is the manager of Go-Hawk Graphics and an associate at Greenview Alternative High School.
- Daughter Amanda is the Pathways director of Wartburg College Education Dept.
- Daughter Angela owns Angie Chaplin Leadership Partners and is a consultant
- Four grandchildren living in Waverly and attending district schools
- Hobbies include hunting, fishing, reading, and spending time with family
