• BS degree from Iowa State University in 1980
• MS degree from Creighton University in 1987
• He was a teacher in Glenwood, Iowa where he taught 2nd grade, 6th grade math, 4th grade, 1st grade, and 5th grade Language Arts. He was also an elementary principal in Dunkerton, Iowa, for 3 years.
• Hobbies include family vacations, music, volleyball, and following his children's events
• Chose to be a teacher because he enjoys working with children and youth
• He has helped coach AAU basketball, Cedar Valley Soccer teams, Little League baseball, and AAU volleyball
• He is married to Jan Wilcox and has two sons, Adam and Aaron, and one daughter, Abby
• Honors Received:
• Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award, 2000;
• Waverly Newspaper "Person of the Year-Education Leader," 2006
• 2010 Music Educators of Iowa, Administrator of the Year for the Support of the Arts
• 2010 School Administrators of Iowa, Arts Administrator of the Year
• He feels that the Waverly-Shell Rock area is a great place to raise a family, and also feels very fortunate to be working in the Waverly-Shell Rock Schools.

Allison Rasmussen

"Ms. R" started teaching at Waverly-Shell Rock in the fall of 2006.  Previously she taught at IKM (Manilla) and St. Mary's Catholic School in Storm Lake.  She has had a variety of experience including K-6 General music, 5-6 Instrumental music, K-12 Vocal music, 7-8th grade Language Arts and 4th grade.  She has a bachelor's degree from Buena Vista University (Go Beavers!) and has her Orff-Schulwerk levels I & II from Drake University.  She earned her Masters Degree in Education from Viterbo University in July of 2009.  Currently she teaches K-4 General Music at West Cedar, Southeat and Carey.  In the summer, Ms. Rasmussen directs the musical theatre production for the Donna Reed Festival in Denison, Iowa, (www.donnareed.org) and throughout the year, directs the Trinity Kidz theatre troupe at the Trinity Methodist Church in Waverly.  In her spare time, Ms. R enjoys going to concerts and theatrical events as well as watching movies, traveling, and visiting friends and family.

I began my teaching career in 1999 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. I have previously taught third, first, and preschool. I have a BA in Elementary and Early Childhood Education with a reading endorsement and a Master's Degree in Elementary Education from UNI. I have successfully been through NAEYC Accreditation.

• Hobbies include swimming, going to the lakes, rollerblading, Waterloo Blackhawks hockey games, watching movies, working on the family farm, cooking, and reading children's books.
• He chose to be a teacher because he enjoys working with children and teaching them new and exciting things.
• Pets: fish in the classroom and a Shih-zu dog at home.
