    • Currently serves as the Executive Director for the Iowa Association for Middle Level Education (IAMLE).
  • Why Teaching: I always wanted to coach kids but more importantly I had great teachers all through school. I appreciated all they did for me and wanted to have the same influence on someone else.

  • He was a teacher in Glenwood, Iowa where he taught 2nd grade, 6th grade math, 4th grade, 1st grade, and 5th grade Language Arts. He was also an elementary principal in Dunkerton, Iowa, for 3 years.
  • Hobbies include family vacations, music, volleyball, and following his children's events
  • Chose to be a teacher because he enjoys working with children and youth
  • He has helped coach AAU basketball, Cedar Valley Soccer teams, Little League baseball, and AAU volleyball
  • He is married to Jan Wilcox and has two sons, Adam and Aaron, and one daughter, Abby
  • Honors Received:
    • Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award, 2000;
    • Waverly Newspaper "Person of the Year-Education Leader," 2006
    • 2010 Music Educators of Iowa, Administrator of the Year for the Support of the Arts

  • He feels that the Waverly-Shell Rock area is a great place to raise a family, and also feels very fortunate to be working in the Waverly-Shell Rock Schools.

Carolyn Bollman

Instrumental Music

  • She started teaching at W-SR in 1993.
  • She has taught K-7 general music, junior high and high school chorus, show choir, band for grades 5th-12th, junior high and high school jazz band.  She has also conducted musicals.
  • Her hobbies include reading, landscaping, walking, and training her dogs.
  • She is teaching because she loves being around young people, and she enjoys learning things from them.
  • She has a husband, Denny, and two sons, Adam and Ben.
  • The Bollman family has four dogs, Molly, a black lab, Tess, a yellow lab, Rizzo, a German shorthair pointer, and Bo, a black lab.
  • In 1998 she received the Philip Sehmann award for excellence in teaching from her peers through the North East Iowa Band Association.
  • In 1988, her junior high jazz band, and in 1993 and 2000, her 6th grade band was selected to perform at the Iowa Bandmaster's Convention. This is the finest honor a band director could have.

  • The Middle School started the At Risk program from scratch in 1997 and have been working to make it better every year since. He gets to work with kids on a one on one basis and help kids reach their goals. Mr. Groth says about his position, "It can be a challenge at times, but I would not trade it for any other position."

Mrs. Lambert grew up in Waterloo, is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa and also received her Masters through UNI.  She taught one year in Omaha, Nebraska before coming to Waverly-Shell Rock Middle School. Mrs. Lambert is a member of MENC and ACDA and has completed her Orff Level II certification. Mrs. Lambert has twins, one boy and one girl, with her husband, Jeff and in her free time likes to go to sporting events, concerts, read and take her dog Athena for walks.
