Testing Information

ACT/SAT:  Required (by most 4-year colleges and universities) for admission.  Students are encouraged to take the ACT/SAT at the end of their junior year or during their senior year. They may retake the test as many times as they would like.  Students should check with individual colleges as to which test(s) to take.  REGISTRATION:  Registration packets for both tests are available in the guidance office for students to pick up.  Students may also register online by clicking on the ACT or SAT (College Board) icons below.  Please note:  Deadlines for registration are usually 6 weeks prior to the test date, and it does take about 30-45 minutes to complete the registration process (especially the paper form).

PSAT:  This test, a preliminary SAT, is a voluntary test administered to students in the fall of their junior year.  Fall of 2012:  October 17th.  It is used in some scholarship programs such as the National Merit Scholarship Program.  Sign-up for the PSAT is announced several times in the daily student bulletin starting in early September.   Visit www.collegeboard.com (look under "For Students") for information relating to the PSAT and the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Strong Interest Inventory:  This test, which measures a student's interests in a variety of occupational areas, is given to seniors in the fall during their Physical Education class.  Results are interpreted for seniors during their annual senior conference held during the student's first semester. 

Iowa Assessments formerly (ITED): These tests, mandated by the federal government, are administered to 9th-11th graders in October (2012: Oct. 22 & 23) of each year.  Results are used to monitor academic performance and in some cases, determine appropriate class placement. 

PLAN: This test is a pre-ACT. This test will be given on December 5, 2012, and is highly recommended for all sophomores who are planning on attending a 4-year college. The test will provide valuable information and identify strengths and "need areas" to help you prepare for the ACT that you will take your junior or senior year. 

 

Registration Information

All 9th-11th grade students are presented with registration information during February/March of the school year.  Included in the presentation are topics and items such as the Waverly-Shell Rock High School graduation requirements, a course description booklet, and an actual registration sheet, which must be signed by a parent/guardian prior to being handed in.

Schedule Changes:  Students are able to change their schedules up to 5 days after the beginning of the semester.  See the Student Handbook for specific details concerning this policy.
