Driver Education

Grade:  9-12

Length of Course: One semester

Driver education consists of a minimum of 30 classroom hours of instruction and a minimum of six hours behind the wheel.  Students will attend class on an every other day basis.  Driving time will be scheduled during one of the student's study halls.  Total cost for this program is $315.  $160 payable at registration with the balance of $155 due during the semester when the class is held.

How old do I have to be to take it? As soon as you have an instructional permit and are entering high school you are able to take Driver Education.

Do I get high school credit for it? No

Do I need a permit before class? Yes

Am I a licensed driver when I finish the class?  When you finish the class and are 16 years old, you will be eligible to get an Intermediate License from the DOT.  You also would be eligible for a School Permit upon completion of the class. 

What kind of car will we use? We use newer cars from Dan Deery Motors.

How much driving experience will I get? All students will receive a minimum of 6 hours of instruction in the car.

When do I register for class? Summer registration begins sometime in February or March and is on a first come first served basis.  Listen for announcements as that time approaches.  School year registration should be done when registering for for all other classes and is filled in with an age based policy.
