Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-teacher conferences are held two times a year, although faculty and staff are available to meet with parents whenever there is a need. Consult your school calendar to see when conferences are scheduled for your child.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters in Schools was started in the 1990’s to give volunteers and children individualized time together on a consistent basis.   Mentors are screened and carefully matched to students after training.  Mentors agree to spend a class period a week with a child for at least a one-year commitment. Volunteers and children meet regularly during the school year at the child’s school.  Whether they play games or do schoolwork, the bond they share promotes good attendance, positive peer relationships, a positive attitude, and academic enrichment.  Please contact Melinda Pitt at melinda@iowabigs.org, 352-2813.

Parent Groups

Carey Elementary

Carey School doesn't have a formal group of parents that meet or fund raise for the school. We have a volunteer coordinator that helps secure volunteers to help with such things as the Carey Carnival, book fairs, Teacher Appreciation Week, Informance presentation at Neumann Auditorium, office help, and working with students. Please contact the school office if you are interested in helping with any of these projects.

Southeast Elementary

Southeast Elementary: Southeast School has a very active Parent Group, which organizes activities, fundraisers, and special events to support the students and staff. Monthly meetings are held to coordinate and plan throughout the school year. Four times every year "Sleepovers" are held at the school as a fundraiser with parent and teacher volunteers hosting and supervising the event. Students in grades 1-4 are able to sign-up to stay at the Sleepover for a small fee which includes crafts and games based on a theme, a movie, a snack, sleeping on the floor in sleeping bags, and a hot breakfast the next morning! The Southeast Parent Group also sponsors pizza at Open House, a Carnival or Family Night, the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon, the spring music "Informance", book fairs, childcare at Parent-Teacher Conferences, Southeast t-shirt sales and large projects such as playground improvements and assemblies. Through the Parent Group's efforts, financial support for all students to experience quality field trips, and teachers to acquire additional equipment and supplies for their classrooms, is also provided. Please contact the school office for more information about how you can become actively involved with the Southeast School Parent Group!

The PTO coordinates the book fair, conference meals for teachers, the carnival, the Fine Arts Festival, hosts skating parties for students at SR school, and they do a number of other small fundraisers and nice things for students and staff. Through the PTO's efforts, financial support for all students to experience quality field trips, and teachers to acquire additional equipment and supplies for their classrooms, is also provided. Please contact the school office for more information about how you can become actively involved with the Shell Rock School PTO!

Middle School Parent Group

The Middle School Parent Group actively promotes the school and is involved in several activities throughout the school year.  The group meets approximately every 5-6 weeks and plans events that either raise money for the school or provide food for staff members during birthdays and conferences.  If you are interested in helping with the Middle School Parent Group, please contact Brenda Ponto at BPonto@inrcog.org.
